Letters are a form of communication in the Animal Crossing series. It is nowadays in all main serial games, but absent from spin-off titles such as Happy Home Designer. Players accept the ability to send messages to villagers, other players, the role player's future cocky, and the Farway Museum, and players may receive letters from villagers, other players, some special characters, Nintendo, and other entities, such as the Happy Abode Academy.

Messages are delivered at 9:00 AM and five:00 PM each twenty-four hours by Pete to the role player's mailbox in every game except New Horizons where they are delivered at 5:00 AM each day past an unknown carrier. Sending Letters

To send a letter in Creature Woods, Brute Crossing, City Folk, and New Leaf, the player must first obtain stationery. The player can then send letters to the Villagers in the player's town, other players within the player's boondocks, the Farway Museum (Only in Animal Forest and Creature Crossing), and the actor's future self. Sending letters to villagers will make them friendlier with the player.

In all games up to New Leaf, the player is required to write a letter of the alphabet to i of their villagers during their Role Time Job with Tom Nook. This is used to teach the player how to write and ship letters. Additionally, the actor volition so visit that Villager in a subsequently job, who will comment on the letter that was sent, showing that the villagers can exist influenced by them.
