GT Sport Dev: PS4 “Has The Ability To Answer Our Expectations”; Will Have “Level Of Innovation” Not Seen Since Gran Turismo 1

GT Sport programmer, Polyphony Digital, is happy with the PS4, and how information technology allows the squad to create an innovative Gran Turismo once more.

In a recent interview with IGN, Gran Turismo creator and CEO of Polyphony, Kazunori Yamauchi, talked about how evolution on Sony's Playstation 3 was a "nightmare". According to Yamauchi, development on the PS3 caused a lot of stress due to the hardware used in the console. Yamauchi is probably referring to the Cell architecture that was used in the Playstation three, which caused a lot of developers headaches.

"The PlayStation 4'southward large memory size is a unique trait," he said, "but in terms of CPU performance, the PS3's Cell chip, while hard to handle, is really capable. They both take different advantages", Yamauchi told Japanese game magazine Famitsu back in 2022.

GT Sport to innovate one time again

The PS4 is a different beast all the same, and Yamauchi seems actually happy with the panel's operation and hardware. The Gran Turismo creator even stated that the PS4 allows the studio to answer their expectations for the upcoming GT Sport.

"Compared to that the PS4 is a piece of hardware that actually has the ability to respond to our expectations," said Yamauchi. "I've said this over and once more but this, Gran Turismo Sport, it really has the level of innovation yous haven't seen since Gran Turismo i and we're having a lot of fun developing information technology, and we're discovering a lot of things as we develop it."

"And so it was actually good for us that we started developing for PS4 afterwards because we so really had the time to do [research and development] on the performance of the hardware which enables us to do things like the physics-based rendering, so it was really good for us that we weren't in a rush to get something out."

During this year's E3,  a new trailer for GT Sport was shown off, which can be checked out below.
